Analog Product Development

Why Analog?

… Analog signals are the fundamental underpinning of nearly everything.

Analog signals are unique as they are continuously varying in amplitude. Unlike digital signals, where relevant amplitudes are only when the amplitude is above or below defined thresholds – “on” or “off”, analog signals continuously change throughout a linear range.

Think of sound… sometimes silent and other times very loud and all levels in between.  Think of touch… sometimes sharp pain and and other times a smooth caress  and all levels in between.  These can vary quickly such as what is encountered in radio frequencies or slowly as encountered in temperature variances. In nearly all cases, both coexist. Equipment Analog circuitry can include the following:

Sensors

Sensors come in a wide variety. Whether a sensor measures pressure, movement, airflow, temperature or nearly any environmental condition. Modern sensors are highly sensitive precision, high speed instruments requiring special attention to noise, and often in noisy environments.  The signals may be nearly non-existent (lost in the noise) or very strong – and sometimes a single instrument may need to measure over the entire range.

Northbay Labs excels in this technology having successfully designed shock, pressure and airflow sensors.

Signal Conditioning

Signal conditioning takes a signal, often from a sensor and focuses on the information required for the application and extracts it. This may require advanced filtering and internal amplification of signals that are often buried in the noise. Attention to detail is imperative and experience is paramount.
Northbay labs has a decades of experience developing under these conditions and provides the expertise you need for a successful product release

Amplification

In addition to signal conditioning, amplification is another key aspect in analog product development. High gain, high bandwidth are expectations of our clients. Low noise and high stability are critical components of this development.

Northbay Labs offers the decades of analog development experience and equipment necessary to address all these needs
